The pharmacy technician training program must be accredited by either a regional or national accrediting agency, a regional or national institutional accrediting agency, or a specialized accrediting agency that is recognized by the Secretary of the United States Department of Education. Many of both employer- and non-employer-based training programs are Board approved, too. It’s important to note that Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) may not be used as an alternative to the completion of a pharmacy technician training program that is Board-approved.

The pharmacy technician training program at the Medical Institute of Palm Beach provides students with the academic and hands-on experience that they will need to obtain an entry-level position in the field. Students who successfully complete the program will be able to dispense medications and provide pharmacist support at all types of locations that offer pharmacological services. Students will be assigned an admissions representative who will guide them throughout the training program.

Prerequisite requirements for this program include:

  • Students must be at least 17 years of age before beginning classes
  • A high school diploma or an authentic academic transcript, which, if necessary, must be accompanied by an English translation
  • Authenticated transcripts from any colleges or universities that a student may have previously attended
  • A completed enrollment application, which will be reviewed by the Admissions Department.

Classes are comprised of no more than 15 students and the program is completed in 6 months.

Students of the pharmacy technician training program offered at Palm Beach State College will acquire the skills that are needed to obtain an entry-level position as either a pharmacy tech or pharmacy clerk. This program’s coursework covers the laws and regulations that govern pharmacies and how to effectively and efficiently communicate with customers and handle their needs. Students will also learn how they can improve their prospects for a career as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). The program is completely online and includes 12 lessons. Lessons focus on topics that are directly related to pharmacology. 

Students can complete their coursework on either a PC (Windows 8 or higher) or a Mac (OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 or later). The most recent version of Chrome or Firefox are the preferred browsers; however Edge and Safari are also compatible. Software will need to be installed and operational prior to beginning the program. There are no prerequisite requirements for this course.
