There are two main routes you can take to become a pharmacy tech in the state. First, is through a pharmacy technician apprenticeship and receiving on-the-job training. Second is by attending a state-approved training program in a community college, private college and vocational/tech school.
There are three types of pharmacy technology training programs to choose from:
Certificate programs (typically less than a year and also most popular), Diploma programs (typically one year) or Associate degree program (typically two years long and most comprehensive).
These courses can be offered: part time or full time including online. Online training programs are self-paced and as a result quicker to complete.
Upon completion students are prepared for entry-level employment in retail, mail order, nursing homes and hospital pharmacies and pharmacies within medical and doctor's offices. In addition graduates can also sit and pass the PTCB pharmacy technician exam which is nationally recognized, leads to career advancement and higher earning potential.

The *average Pennsylvania pharmacy technician salary for 2018 was $13,80 per hour or $30,000 a year.
An entry level pharmacy tech in PA earns an average of $11.70 per hour whilst an experienced and/or certified pharmacy technician can earn upwards of $18.25 per hour depending on years of experience and work setting.
Pennsylvania Pharmacy Technician Certification Requirements
Pharmacy Technician certification is recognized but not mandatory in the state of Pennsylvania. With certification though candidates secure better jobs and command higher salaries.
